Danish alto saxophonist and flautist Julie Kjaer's quintet drives the freedom inherent in her compositions to new extremes. Free melodies and powerhouse improvisations are knitted together with exuberance and wit. A recent arrival on the British jazz-scene, Julie is already making an impression: of her F-IRE session at the Others, Joseph Kassman-Todd wrote [Jazzwise, Dec 2009]: "Kjær’s playing reached Braxton-esque levels of surreal linguistic expression. This was a synthesis of dark Scandinavian folk with the Art Ensemble of Chicago."  Julie has toured internationally with Django Bates and his band StoRMChaser, and the Danish big-band “Blood Sweat Drum’n Bass” where she has played with amongst others: Dave Douglas, Arve Henriksen and Palle Mikkelborg.

Tom Challenger is perhaps best known for his work with bands suchas Dice Factory, Outhouse and his band MA.

The Al Scott Trio were formed in late 2009.

Each member of the trio draws on wide & varied styles of music

EST, Tomasz Stanko & John Taylor.

A new trio led by Dan Nicholls on piano, featuring bassist Tom Farmer of Empirical and Dice Factory, and drummer Dave Smith of Outhouse and countless other bands. 

Dan is one of the most promising young players on the London scene. 

He now spends his time between his home in Stafford and Copenhagen playing and composing music. 

Combining the best of the Birmingham and London scenes, this gig is highly anticipated.

The John Fleming Quartet - 

A recent graduate from the Birmingham Conservatoire jazz course, saxophonist John Fleming recently won BBC Scotland Young Jazz Musician of the Year 2010. 

Tonight he leads his excellent quartet through some fantastic music as part of our on going affiliation with Birmingham venue The Yardbird.

"Anglo-Italian Blues piano player and singer Eric Ranzoni is a full-time musician. 

Since moving back to London in 2003, he's gradually gained a reputation as a skilled and versatile pianist with a warm singing voice, coupled with a knack to entertain a crowd. 

He specializes in piano-based Chicago Blues, a la Otis Spann and Memphis Slim, with a touch of New Orleans style, a la Professor Longhair and Dr.John. 

Other Other than with his own band, Eric has toured with big names in the Blues, such as Mud Morganfield (the son of legendary Muddy Waters!), UK star Big Joe Louis and guitar ace Otis Grand."

JERICO ORCHESTRA

Jerico Orchestra is a collective of musicians and sound artists dedicated to exploring the relationship between visual art and music. Its aim is to encourage its participants to interact in radically different ways by expanding both the concept and form of a musical score.

Our performances consist of three elements united together: the collective mind of the orchestra in action, the projected score, and the response of the audience. Together these three elements create a unique work which must be experienced in its totality, live and living, acting on both spatial and conceptual levels, (moving from feeling into meaning) releasing aesthetic responses into involvement with collective consciousness.

We believe there is a close relationship between aesthetics and ethics; and that collaborative creative effort is nothing less than an aesthetic model for an achievable political programme.

Kelly is a new voice on the London Jazz Guitar scene, a very skillful musician and strongly influenced by traditional influences of European Jazz guitar.

Vibraphonist Jim Hart has established himself as one of the premier creative jazz musicians of his generation in the UK. 

In demand on both drums and vibraphone his creative output has been heralded in the international jazz press as being unique and forward thinking, whilst holding a firm foot in many of jazz’s great traditions, from both the American and European schools. 

His new group the Cloudmakers Trio plays original music by Jim that lies somewhere between New York's 'downtown' sound and the modern European tradition. 

It features his regular sparring partner Dave Smith on drums, and US born, London resident Michael Janisch on bass. 

Together these three have played in many different outfits and projects most notably collaborating with New York trumpeter Ralph Alessi for a highly acclaimed UK tour last summer.

This New York based trio with Jean-Michel Pilc (piano), Francois Moutin (bass), and Ari Hoenig (drums) has toured regularly at most international jazz festivals and has performed in most jazz venues in NYC, including: Blue Note, Birdland, Knitting Factory and Sweet Basil. 

Their CDs include "Together - Live at Sweet Basil, NYC - Vol. 1 & 2" (2000); "Welcome Home" (2002 Dreyfus); and "Threedom" (2011). 

Since 2004 they have played often in each other's projects and are now reunited as a trio again appearing on a regular basis as at Hoenig's weekly Monday night gig at Smalls, in NYC combining their experiences with a new found language, creativity and passion. 

Their new album "Threedom"was released at the Blue Note in New York in August 2011 on the Motéma label and they have since appeared in various Canadian Jazz festivals. 

Their European tour begins in February 2012 and this gig at Charlie Wright's on 16 Feb is their debut and only London show.
